Blogging the Pre-Show
7:21pm Scarlett Johansson is going for the Cyndi Lauper look! Peroxide, frizz, et al.

7:26pm Two male publicists are on their cellphones in the interview backgrounds trying to get their faces in the shot. "Can you see me, mom?" "What about now?" "Do you see me now? I'm scratching my nose behind Alan Alda."

7:27pm Clive Owen, I love you. [Behind Clive, the same two dudes on their cellphones trying to squeeze in facetime]

7:27 Spike Lee's wearing a tassle.

7:33 Morgan Freeman's wearing a scarf that looks like the Mexican rugs available in Tijuana.

7:54 Sick of this. Star asks everyone the same question - "Are you so excited?" What are they gonna say... "No, actually this kind of sucks, you're obnoxious, I hate your Payless commercials."

Sidelined
I've had to call in sick. Ever since Chip and I returned from Daytona I've been basically sleepwalking. Coworkers suggested it was "redneck flu". Dave says I sound like a choking labrador. Hrmm. We shall see if there is indeed a redneck flu. Off to see the doctor in the morning...

Air Jordan Anniversary
The Nike Air Jordan's turn twenty today. Now, I have nothing but love for the Air Jordan's, but what about LA Gear's? And British Knights? How come we don't celebrate their anniversaries?

This is an A, B Conversation, so...
Conversation at a college bar:
Person A to B: "So, I hear you're the man with the weed."
Person C: "How do you get to be Man of the Week?"

A Year Older, Not a Drop Wiser
Astrologer Eugenia Last says: Don't just think about all the things you would like to do; get busy and start doing them. You have some good ideas to explore, and this is a great year to do so. The more you interact with people who have similar interests, the more you will accomplish along the way. Your numbers are 8, 14, 22, 26, 39, 43

Also born today: Paris Hilton

Mattman Returns
The boyfriend's blogging again, even making a subtle Sports Night reference in the latest WoTW.

While I Was Away
The cats killed my plant.

Grammy Low Point
What was that whole Marc Antony/J Lo Spanish soap opera on an 80's set bit?
She is SO over.

Notes from the Infield
Hello from the Media Center of the newly redesigned Daytona infield. Nextel's title sponsorship apparently fueled quite a bit of change, and most of them are excellent.
A random rundown of my first day here:

1. Credential cops are EVERYWHERE. It's getting to the point where I need a certain credential for a certain bathroom in order to pee.

2. They have separated filing centers for print and electronic media. I can't even GET INTO the "print media" building because I'm credentialed for "electronic".*

3. I've learned my stock-car racing quickly. Today I felt comfortable with my NASCAR for Dummies** study to make a joke to a Earnhardt Jr. groupie by going, "I see you're a big Tony Stewart fan". OHHH, I kill myself.

4. Did one-on-ones with heavy hitters Brian France, Darryl Waltrip, and the legendary P@trick Terpstr@.

*Stiles says it's to keep the print people from "the catty TV bitches". Thanks, honey.
** There really is a NASCAR for Dummies. I got it in the media kit.

It's That Time of Year
Chip and I leave tomorrow to cover the hoopla surrounding NASCAR's biggest race. Finally, I'll find out what the fuss is all about. And lose my eardrums. And get to smell burning rubber.

Greenville County Begins to Catch up with Mother Time
Forgot to mention this local political note: By a close vote, Greenville County Council voted to approve a paid Martin Luther King Holiday!
But to show much of SC still stands steadfastly against progress, the councilman from Bob Jones University still voted against it.

Happy February, Happy Sweeps
You'll be able to tell sweeps starts tomorrow when your TVs are innundated with promos for local news specials. Coming up on our station, features about yep, you guessed it, identity theft, the place in Alabama where all your lost luggage goes to die, and the Daytona 500 (once Chip and I generate some stories.)
