There's Something Weird Going On In The Universe
Marketa Irglova, who won an Oscar for Best Song but was cut off by music when she started speaking, got a chance to come back after the commercial break and make her beautiful speech about "hope". Stiles thinks it's a sign of some societal shift, akin to the Democrats retaking the House and Senate in 2006. Is something stirring?

My Favorite Picture This Cycle
I saw this sticker taped to the back of a battery or a mic receiver on the NBC camera that was shooting Lee Cowan Friday night. There we were, with 30,000 gathered on the streets of downtown to hear Barack Obama give his stump speech. And since I've heard it a few times, I found it more amusing that Obama's traveling press corps badge has a cartoon of the candidate getting cooked.

Debate-a-palooza
So, the center of the political universe is suddenly Austin, Texas, which means I'm having a good ol' time. I think I might liveblog the entire day tomorrow on my politics blog. Tune in and comment if you can (even though the Belo comments feature sucks). CNN's Bill Schneider was wondering why I was stalking him all afternoon and so I finally asked him for a picture for my blog. Then he asked me what a blog was. OK I made all of that up, he's a nice guy.

When In Need...
When the clock struck midnight and it became my birthday (Feb 17th), Stiles and I were on our way home from a chill East Austin lounge and stopped at a Racetrac gas station. He came out with my first birthday present of the morning. See below:

Bring it!
Mizzou reunions all around as the official Obama campaign staff parachutes into Austin. Gannet from Graham Hall spent the night here on Saturday before heading to her Obama hotel last night. Then, this morning, I'm standing in the Ho-Jo where all the Obama folks are holed up and I run into Adora Andy, who was a year ahead of me at Ol' Mizzou. Hadn't seen that girl since May 2003. She, too, is an Obama communications person. Good times, great oldies.
