Thorny Problem
On Friday, the Senate considered the "cactus rustling bill", by State Sen Eliot Shapleigh, D-El Paso. Apparently there's an epidemic of people from other states coming to Texas to steal cactus from the ground. Here's a joke, from another lawmaker to Shapleigh:

What's the difference between a cactus and a caucus?
With cactus, the pricks are on the outside.

Page Not Found? What the Fuck Does That Mean?
If you are one of my two regular readers, then you might have had a Michael Bolton-in-Office Space moment when you tried to visit the blog recently. I want to personally apologize to you, because I changed credit cards and my server didn't get paid. All is well now.

The Ghost of Gail
Did anyone else notice that Dawson Leery's mom, Mrs. Leery, showed up on Grey's Anatomy? I half expected to see Pacey and Jen, and then I remembered that Jen died of some strange heart disease in the season finale.

The Weekend...
What we listened to: Informer, by Snow, from the album 12 Inches of Snow. That's right.

What we did: Memorized the showdown on the Senate floor between John Whitmire and Dan Patrick so that we can perform it as a bar trick.

What we ate: Manwich, the sloppy joe stuff. Yummy.

Favorite snippet that's not from Stiles: "Yeah, we don't carry Coke products. Too tainted." -the Whole Foods employee, to me, when I asked where the regular Coke drinks were

Random Bitching and Moaning
--Why do I keep running into people at Whole Foods when I'm wearing my sweaty workout clothes? It happened again this week -- twice -- but at least in one of the instances the girl I ran into was wearing even more spandexy, sweaty clothes, which made me feel marginally better.

--I went to myspace.com yesterday and under the "Cool New People" section on the home page were three people, "Jennifer", "Jennifer" and "Chris Dodd". Hrmmm....

Hot Shot
I wandered into the Texas Senate today to find a teenager who seemed a little out of place. He was about seven feet tall, surrounded by an entourage and, if I had to wager a guess, he looked like he was worth about $30 million.

It was UT basketball superstar Kevin Durant, and he has extremely large feet. Here's Kevin's foot next to a male reporter's foot.

Snippet from Stiles
"You haven't blogged in like, a week, baby!"

DOH!

Where have I been? Took a trip to Crawford, TX for a sweeps story. Bought a sweet new pink cowboy hat (this one has sequins, too). Witnessed a SMACKDOWN in the Texas Senate, where Whitmire reamed freshman Senator Dan Patrick for "lecturing my best friend".

Texas Politics: Just like high school, only with consequences.

First, This Week's Snippet from Stiles...
Me: I'm going to buy an Orrin Hatch CD.
Him: DUDE. You could make mp3's out of the songs and do a "Daily Orrin Hatch Download" on your blog. That'd be awesome! You'd probably get prosecuted, though.

Twisted
Recall that Mr. Stiles is excellent at making balloon animals (a craft he learned at camp).

Here's my man making me a balloon dog, after first making himself a balloon hat. Now that's what I call talent!
